Contemporary perceptual oil painting

I work in oil, using colour as the primary structure of my paintings.

My practice sits within contemporary perceptual realism. Rather than describing place or subject literally, I am interested in how it feels to look. Landscape, figure, still life, and animal forms become scaffolds through which colour, atmosphere, and spatial tension are explored.

Across my work, form emerges through adjacent colour relationships rather than line. Space is suggested, softened, and sometimes allowed to dissolve, inviting the viewer to orient themselves through perception rather than narrative.

I paint places that are familiar but unstable. Horizons shift. Edges soften. Objects hover between recognition and abstraction. The aim is not depiction, but presence.

I am based in Bellville, Cape Town, South Africa, and paint regularly in studio alongside a professional practice outside the arts.

Selected works are available by enquiry.

Selected works from the studio

Each piece is painted to hold presence — quiet spaces for breath, light, and reverence.

I paint to honour what is quiet, fleeting, and often missed - because stillness, too, deserves remembering.
